Buck-Tick

From January 7-February 7, there was a collaboration with Tower Records Cafe Shibuya in Tokyo where the cafe was decorated with Buck-Tick photos, had Buck-Tick music playing in the background, and featured a special menu of food and drink with selections chosen by members. The collaboration cafe was also held from January 21-February 7 at both Umeda NU Chayamachi in Osaka and Sapporo Pivot in Hokkaido.

4 shows last December from the "Tour No.0 -Guernican Moon" were postponed due to Atsushi's illness. These were rescheduled and took place in March, April, and May.

pro baseball talk event

On March 14, U-ta appeared at the fifth "Ongaku To Hito" magazine sponsored talk event Oretachi, Pro Yakyu Daisuki Musician Desu! (meaning We Are Musicians Who Love Pro Baseball!) held at Shinjuku Loft Plus One. U-ta once again wore his yellow Tigers official fan club jersey. Other musicians who appeared include Atsushi Inoue (New Rote'ka), Koji Ueno (The Hiatus), Takuya "Moby" Okamoto (Scoobie Do), Kyosuke (Bakudan Johnny), Great Maekawa (Flower Companyz), and Shin'ichirou Satou (The Pillows).

Onsyuhai

On March 26, Hide participated in the 14th annual Onsyuhai (Sound Kick Cup) soccer tournament, which has a mix of musicians and pro soccer players. He was again part of the entertainment team TFA in the Over 40 Legend League. Other team members included Ai Ishigaki (formerly of The Mad Capsule Market's), VJ Boo, etc.

From April 9 through July 15, a collaboration was held with Round1 karaoke rooms and 2 of their locations (Ikebukuro in Tokyo and Umeda in Osaka) had Buck-Tick photos as decorations and drink coasters that one could take home as a souvenir. 10 of their locations had collaboration drinks on the menu and one could win an original tapestry. There was also a postcard giveaway. Round1 is supported by Joysound, one of the biggest karaoke companies in Japan.

On April 24, the live tour video Tour No.0 was released. It contained footage from both "Tour No.0" and "Tour No.0 -Guernican Moon-" from the previous year.

Gegege No Kitaro A double single was released on May 22 entitled "Kemonotachi No Yoru / Rondo" (meaning "Night of Beasts"). Unlike the previous double single where one song was written by each guitarist, both songs were written by the Atsushi/Hisashi songwriting team. There was a remix of "Kemonotachi No Yoru" as a B-side. "Rondo" was used as the ending theme song for the cartoon show "Gegege No Kitaro," a long-standing staple in Japanese pop culture since it began as a comic in 1960. The show itself is centered around beastly creatures of sorts so perhaps "Kemonotachi No Yoru" would have been a better fit. (The main character Kitaro was born in a cemetery, his father is his missing eyeball, and his friends are supernatural.) Due to this theme song connection, there were collaborative merchandise items offered where Buck-Tick members were drawn in the style of "Gegege No Kitaro." The creator of "Gegege No Kitaro," Shigeru Mizuki died in 2015.

On May 25, Atsushi appeared on the FM Cocolo radio show "The Majestic Saturday Night." On May 27, Ringo Sheena released the album Sandokushi. Atsushi sang guest vocals on the song "Kakeochisha."

A special 2 day event called Locus Solus No Kemonotachi was held on May 25 and 26 at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba. The title could be translated as Beasts of Locus Solus but the band chose to write it as BesTias Locus Solus. They surprised the attendees by having a secondary stage in the middle of the audience where they performed acoustic versions of a few songs. This was very reminiscent of the Jane's Addiction relapse (don't call it a reunion) tour in 1997. The concert was recorded and released on home video as Locus Solus No Kemonotachi on November 20.

Amplifier announced they would sell 1 more design in their series of t-shirts with Hisashi's portrait on them. The design could be pre-ordered in June-July and was released in August. Last year, they offered 5 different portraits, making a total of 6. Each were available as a solid black or solid white t-shirt for ¥6,296.

On June 16, Toll appeared at the Tago Studio Takasaki Music Festival in his hometown where he helped to judge amateur performers. He first did this back in 2016 when the festival took place for one day but the festival had grown to 2 days with judging on the second day.

Tago Music Fest

On August 19, Toll's side project finally released new material. Yagami Toll & Blue Sky released the mini album (AKA E.P.) "Wonderful Home -Thunder & Cold Wind-." It had 6 original songs with the main members Toll has been performing with every summer that he holds his birthday gigs. He proudly recorded it in his hometown of Takasaki at Tago Studio in just 4 days. The cover photo was also taken in Takasaki. To promote the album, Toll made two in store appearances at Tower Records where he talked about recording the album and took photos with fans. These were held on August 18 at the Shibuya store in Tokyo and on August 31 at the Takasaki OPA store in Gunma.

In August, Toll performed his annual birthday gig It's A Now! with his band Blue Sky. The members once again included Kenta Harada (guitar/vocals), Kaname (bass), and Masato Yagi (guitar/vocals). This time Blue Sky performed on August 10 at Nagoya Apollo Base in Aichi, August 19 at Shimokitazawa Garden in Tokyo, and August 24 at Umeda Shangri-La in Osaka. They were joined with special guests Shime and Keiichi Miyako (Rayflower) at the Nagoya show, Shime only at the Tokyo show, and Charlie Kosei at the Osaka show since Shime was not available. As the group now had a mini album to promote, the setlist included their original songs but were still heavy with cover songs. The shows were divided into two parts with an encore. The setlists were slightly different at each of the shows as well. Each show included all 6 original songs from the "Wonderful Home" mini album as well as covers of Carol (4 songs), The Beatles (up to 5 songs), John Lennon (1 song), Creedence Clearwater Revival (1 song), Elvis Presley (1 song but a different song in Osaka), Steppenwolf (1 song), T-Rex (1 song), Kiyohiko Ozaki (1 song), and The Eagles (1 song in Nagoya and Tokyo). Each city also had a song played only in that city. For Nagoya, it was a cover of a Super Butter Dog song. For Tokyo, it was one song each of Neil Young, Jerry Wallace, and Grand Funk Railroad. For Osaka, Charlie Kosei sang a song from the Lupin the 3rd films since he's the original singer on it. Several songs from the setlist were swapped for other songs since Charlie was singing, including covers of Roy Orbison, Cream, Eric Clapton, and Sam Cooke. At the Tokyo show, U-ta was the surprise guest who presented Toll with his birthday cake.

Hisashi figure

In October, it was announced that Amplifier would sell vinyl figures of Hisashi with 2 different heads. These were to be sold in January for ¥10,000 as one of their vinyl collectible dolls (VCD). The figure was modeled after Hisashi's look during Tour No.0 -Guernican Moon- and the second head was modeled after how he looked during 1997's Sexy Stream liner album. Buck-Tick figures had been sold before as a set or individually to make a set but this time it was only Hisashi. The actual release was delayed until July 2020.

On November 13, U-ta again appeared at the sixth "Ongaku To Hito" magazine sponsored talk event Oretachi, Pro Yakyu Daisuki Musician Desu! (meaning We Are Musicians Who Love Pro Baseball!) held at Shinjuku Loft Plus One. Other musicians who appeared include Atsushi Inoue (New Rote'ka), Koji Ueno (The Hiatus), Takuya "Moby" Okamoto (Scoobie Do), Kyosuke (Bakudan Johnny), Shin'ichirou Satou (The Pillows), Koji Hayashi (Triceratops; supporting Yomiuri Giants), and Kanji Yamamoto (formerly of The Cigavettes; supporting Fukuoka Softbank Hawks).

At the end of the year, the annual The Day In Question shows were held in 4 different cities, starting on December 3 in Takasaki, Gunma and ending on December 29 in Tokyo. This was the third time The Day In Question shows were held in 4 different cities. This was the first time that the Tokyo date was not at the Budokan but rather at Kokuritsu Yoyogi Kyogijo as the venue was unavailable due to renovations to prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
