Background info: Rocket Punch aired 4/98-9/99 on Fuji TV channel. The hosts were Toshiaki Megumi (member of the comedy team Hojamaka) and Rie Nakahara (real name Kimie Mekata).

Toshiaki: This is their second appearance on "Rocket Punch", isn't it?
Rie: I was worried about the absence, what was going on.
Toshiaki: It's been 1 year.
Rie: It's going to be fun, I've been wanting to see them very much.
Toshiaki: Let's introduce them. All the members of Buck-Tick! Long time no see.
Rie: Long time no see.
Buck-Tick: Good evening. [screen displays their names]
Rie: I wanted to see all of you. What about all of you?
[group laughs]
Rie: I heard Mr. Imai wanted to see me.
Toshiaki: That's nice.
Rie: Well, we are friends, aren't we?
[everyone but Rie laughs]
Rie: Am I wrong?
Atsushi: If you say so, then it is so.
Rie: Yes it is. But, it's been 1 year and 2 months since we've seen each other. Mr. Imai now has long hair!
Hisashi: Yes.
[group laughs]
Toshiaki: [to Toll] Yours is really long.
Toll: [nods]
Toshiaki: As always.
Toll: It's for my job. [laughs]
Toshiaki: For your job? Wow!
Rie: Wow. Hey Mr. Yagami, when I see your hair, I think that I would like to crawl in there and try to sleep, just once. Like a retreat.
Toshiaki: I've hung out with little U-ta about 2 times, huh? We went to go drink.
Rie: He wasn't a nuisance, was he?
U-ta: Not at all.
Rie: Is that so?
U-ta: Gentleman's honor.
Rie: Gentleman's honor?
Toshiaki: In [city name inaudible] they have a mochi-pounding festival. Once a year.
Rie: Buck-Tick participated in a mochi-pounding festival?
[band giggles]
Toshiaki: They do. This is really amazing. At the event there was Katsunori Takahashi. I think that was when we first went drinking.
U-ta: [nods]
Rie: "Let's go drinking" is something I've proposed to everyone, isn't it?
[group laughs]
Rie: What's going on? Are you against it?
Toshiaki: They're not against it. That's why, if you ask, they will surely come. Isn't that true Mr. Sakurai?
Atsushi: yeah.
Rie: Is it true?
Atsushi: yeah. Of course.
Rie: [to Hisashi] OK?
Hisashi: Yes.
Hide: It's alright.
Uta: [nods in agreement]
Toll: Me too.
Rie: I feel relieved.
Toshiaki: What are you going to do? Such things...
Rie: First I have to ask them individually or it might be said that I'm bothering them.
Toshiaki: No, I'm telling you that won't happen.
Rie: In the time since about 1 year ago when you last made your appearance, Buck-Tick members have not made many appearances on TV, have you? But inside I very much felt that we had an amazing conversation. That's all.
[everyone laughs]
Toshiaki: But you know, when I drank with U-ta, he was speaking quite normally.
U-ta: [nods in agreement]
Toshiaki: When you're not appearing on TV like this, everyone is talkative.
Atsushi: But that is normal.
Toshiaki: Well, it's not like "WAAAAAAAA!", right?
Rie: You don't say "She~" and things like that, do you? [in Japanese popular culture there's a pose you do and say "she~"]
Atsushi: [points to U-ta] U-ta does do that.
Rie: You say Mr. U-ta does that.
Toshiaki: He does!
Uta: [makes face] I always do that.
[all laugh]
Rie: I see. Well, everyone in Buck-Tick, last time you said that you do karaoke and stuff and that surprised me. When we talk about such things, your fans probably don't know either that you do such things. Is there anything recently that you have started doing?
[all are silent]
Atsushi: [softly] nothing [laughs]
Rie: Did you hear?
Toshiaki: I heard. This really is a good atmosphere.
Rie: "Nothing" he said.
Toshiaki: "Nothing". Well, then you're saying that really you drank alcohol everyday.
Atsushi: I love to drink privately. I even drink alone.
Toshiaki: Is that so?
Atsushi: [nods]
Toshiaki: That's so cool.
Atsushi: Far from it.
Rie: Drinking alone becomes you.
Toshiaki: For example, in the past year, not putting out any songs is not due to being in a hurry? Is it that you are waiting to produce something really good?
Atsushi: It's more like we wait for Hisashi to write songs. [Toll laughs] There are times when we wait for quite awhile.
Toshiaki: Mr. Imai is eager? Something like that? "I must make songs!"
Hisashi: I have a songwriting period and am impatient. As well as a deadline.
Toshiaki: A deadline...You must be bothered by deadlines.
Hisashi: I always go past deadlines. It bothers me.
Toshiaki: Oh.
Rie: When you write songs, is there anything that you have to have? Something about the environment? Such as you always must have alcohol or anything like that?
Hisashi: No, if I drink then there's no way I can write.
Rie: oooh
Toshiaki: Or like you can't write without the presence of a naked woman...
[group laughs]
Hisashi: No!
Rie: If there's such a person, there's no way you can write a song. Because you'd be busy doing something else.
Toshiaki: I don't know. You could suck breast like this [mimes]
Rie: [smacks his head]

Rie: The members of Buck-Tick have so much mystery about them.
Atsushi: Yes that's true.
Toshiaki: That's why there is something I want to ask. What kind of person do you want to marry?
[group laughs]
Rie: This is very important. I don't know if they are going to answer.
Atsushi: Well, it definitely has to be with a woman.
[laughs]
Toshiaki: Firstly, it has to be a woman.
Atsushi: Yes.
Rie: This is very important.
Toshiaki: This is important! Because these days you don't know. There are men out there posed as women.
Atsushi: [nods] A woman. A human being.
Rie: Human being. Of course!
Toshiaki: [inaudible; speaking at same time as Rie]
Rie: There are many types of women.
Atsushi: What shall I do? Shall we move on to the next person?
Rie: Well then, Mr. Sakurai has 2 requirements: 1. woman 2. human being.
Toshiaki: Mr. Imai?
Hisashi: I haven't really thought much about marriage.
Toshiaki: You haven't really thought much marriage?
Hisashi: Maybe there is no one out there for me.
Toshiaki: Oh?
Rie: Really?
Toshiaki: How is it? Do you like to stick with someone or do you like to keep your distance?
Hisashi: Well, keep them at a proper distance.
Toshiaki: At a proper distance.
Rie: Do you like a girl who will spoil you? Someone who is firm?
Hisashi: I prefer someone who is firm.
Rie and Toshiaki: You prefer someone who is firm.
Toshiaki: What about someone who gets angry?
Hisashi: yeah.
Toshiaki: "You leave your things right here? Argh!!!" *kiss*
[laughs]
Rie: What was that? Please do it again.
Toshiaki: [inaudible] That type of person. Or a quiet, patient person.
Hisashi: Yes.
Toshiaki: Which one do you like? Is that so.
Rie and Toshiaki: How discreet.
Toshiaki: I think that maybe you like someone who is stubborn.
Hisashi: That is not the case at all.
Atsushi: He was spoiled as a child.
[Hisashi turns back towards Atsushi and tells him something; the viewer cannot tell what; perhaps upset that he said that]
Rie and Toshiaki: You were a spoiled child?
[laughs]
Rie: So you were a spoiled child. My match! [claps and extends hands towards him] 'Yoisho!'

****[yoisho is a very Japanese word, very hard to translate for me, it's more of a sound that is used in various contexts, especially when doing physical tasks]****

[laughs] [Hisashi is embarrassed and covers his face with his arm]
Rie: But why when I did this [makes the motion with hands] did you not even raise your hands a little bit?
Toshiaki: How are you supposed to raise your hands?
Rie: Do it.
[Toshiaki places his hands, palms up. Rie places her hands on his, palms down.]
Toshiaki: Like this.
Rie: [claps and extends her hands to Hisashi again and this time he places his hands on top of hers]
[laughs]
Toshiaki: He did it! Indeed!
Rie: [turns to camera] To the fans, I apologize.
Toshiaki: Really! This never happens.
Rie: But all he did was put his hands together with mine.
Toshiaki: What about Mr. Hoshino?
Hide: I have never really thought about it.
Toshiaki: You haven't thought about marriage.
Hide: [nods]
Rie: Do you like being alone that much?
Hide: No, it's not that I like it.
Toshiaki: You lost a little weight, didn't you?
Hide: [nods]
Toshiaki: You definitely took off some weight.
Hide: [nods] I lost weight.
Rie: You lost weight?
Toshiaki: Before you had this kind of "Gu!" image about you. [mimes stockiness]
Hide: Yes.
[U-ta and Toll giggle]
Toshiaki: I heard you're really strong.
Hide: [nods]
Toshiaki: Definitely lost weight.
Rie: What kinds of things did you do to lose weight?
Hide: I walked.
[group laughs]
Rie: Walking is most important.
Toshiaki: [inaudible; speaking at same time as Rie] What were you doing, swimming like this [makes swimming motion] and stuff. You walked. What type of woman?
Hide: [motions to Rie] This type of woman.
Toshiaki: That's wonderful Ms. Rie.
Rie: Yes! I'm happy. That the members think of me like this.
Toshiaki: Yes, yes.
Rie: I am thankful for such talk.
Toshiaki: Mr. U-ta, what type do you like?
U-ta: I prefer someone who is firm. And kind.
Rie: Last time you said you like older women, didn't you?
U-ta: [nods]
Toshiaki: But too much older, like 80 years old...
Uta: [laughs] [mutters something inaudible]
Rie: Mr. Yagami?
Toll: There's nothing.
Toshiaki: Nothing?
Toll: If you like, if there is anyone you know.
Rie: I know many different woman close to 40. [Toll giggles] So if that is the case, should I introduce you to my friends? [Toll laughs]

[cut to back from commercial break]

Rie: Let's go drinking!
[Toll nods; band laughs]
Rie: right Imai? [she slaps Imai's knee]
[laughs]
Hisashi: You surprised me!
Rie: I surprised you?
Toshiaki: It's surprising, isn't it?
Rie: I wonder if you're scared, just a little bit?
Toshiaki: No, he's not scared. There is intimacy.
[on screen appears text that the new single "Bran New Lover" is now on sale]
Rie: Well, next time when everyone visits again, though we were denied this time, at the opening shall I sit on their lap?
Toshiaki: Yes, please do.
Rie: Will they let me do that? [turns to stare at Atsushi]
[on screen appears text for 2 concert dates]
Atsushi: We will. (laughs)
Rie: Cool!
Toshiaki: Again Mr. Sakurai makes such talk. This year was a, well, things were done at a comfortable pace and next year there will be a tour.
Atsushi: Yes.
Toshiaki: That's the plan?
Atsushi: Yes.
Toshiaki: Well, definitely we should go drinking at least once.
Atsushi: Please.
Toshiaki: Truthfully.
[band nods]
Rie: Yes and the tour. We are going to go, aren't we?
Toshiaki: We're going, yes. Hey, it's almost going to be the year 2000.
Rie: Oh yeah.
Toshiaki: [inaudible] In only half a year it will be the year 2000.
Rie: It's true!
Toshiaki: It's surprising.
Rie: You can't be absent-minded about it. Ah. [laughs] What? I was all alone in thinking that just now.
Toshiaki: And that leads me to, thank you very much for coming today.
Rie: Thank you very much.
